United Brethren donate to Shiners Hospitals, Home Base and Marlborough Food Pantry

The United Brethren Lodge of Freemasons in Marlborough recently made three major donations to area charitable organizations, drawing on funds raised this summer through its popular annual Main Street car show. Late last month, the 157-year-old Masonic chapter donated $5,000 each to the Springfield and Boston Shriners Hospitals for Children, which provides specialized care for children with neuromusculoskeletal conditions, burn injuries and other special healthcare needs regardless of their ability to pay. On Nov. 2, the Lodge welcomed representatives from Home Base, the veteran and family care organization sponsored by Mass General Hospital and the Boston Red Sox, and the Marlborough Community Cupboard, to receive donations of $4,000 and $3,000 respectively. Associate Director of Veteran Outreach Laura Lakin said the funds would help sustain ongoing care to veterans and their families. Barbara LeGrenade, office coordinator of the Community Cupboard, said the donation would help provide Thanksgiving turkeys to the more than 450 families that the community pantry typically serves.
